Davion Only, a 15-year-old boy, has been in the foster care system his whole life. His mom was in jail when he was born, and he found out on the Internet that she had died without him ever meeting her. Davion has certainly had a hard life, but he has the same needs and wants as everyone else. He just wants to be loved.
He recently put his whole heart on the line when he spoke up in his church, St. Mark Missionary Church, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Davion asked if he could speak, and the local newspaper reporter in attendance was so touched that he decided to publish the story.
What Davion asked for was a family. He said, “I know God hasn’t given up and I’m not either… I’ll take anyone old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple, I don’t care.” Everyone in the church broke down into tears and said they’d take him if they had any room.
His request caught on via social media, and many people have called in asking if Davion could become their son. The fact that he’s never had a bed or pillow of his own struck a chord in the congregation and everyone who heard his story.
“People sometimes don’t know how hard it is and how much we try to do good,” said Davion in a voice still filled with hope.
Davion recognizes the fact that not many people want a 15-year old kid with anger issues. He knows that he will be dealing with the loss of his mother for a long time. However, he is already an inspiration to kids around the world.
The most recent update shows that over 10,000 people have asked to adopt Davion. His case worker, Connie Going, is currently doing adoptive home studies to find the right match. The process may take up to six months since it will involve background checks, court appearances and meetings.
On the TV show “The View,” Barbara Walters asked Davion what kind of family he would like to have. His answer was, “just anyone that would love me.”
Davion has been more motivated to do well in school and is now earning straight “A”s. He will have a family soon without a doubt.
