The Sacramento Kings Foundation recently announced its Season of Doing Good presented by Wells Fargo schedule for December 2015. Every year, the basketball team partners with community leaders throughout the area to leverage basketball as an agent of social good. The month long of special events, which already featured food donations, a refurbished public basketball court, and other charity work, supports the NBA’s Season of Giving.
Kings players including Ben McLemore, DeMarcus Cousins, and Willie Cauley-Stein have donated over $140,000 in tickets towards students as education incentives to extend their mission to provide families their first NBA experience.
The Kings center, who has been the subject of recent trade rumors, gave back to the community in an remarkable way. Thanks to Cousins, one family’s holiday season just got brighter as he surprised them with a shopping spree and bought them a brand new car.
Maurice Williams and Selena Pina were invited along with their children to Sleep Train Arena for a private tour where they were surprised with a brand new 2016 Chevy Malibu on the court. What made the moment even more special? Williams and Pina’s incredible backstory from Sacramento’s KVTV-TV:
“Williams and Pina are raising their 3-year-old daughter Marina, in addition to Selena’s two younger twin sisters J’nay and J’nette Sims, who were twice abandoned — once by their biological mother, and then again by family friends who didn’t want them anymore.
“Malnourished and neglected, the twins, almost six-years-old at the time, were left at the front door of Maurice and Selena, who then contacted Child Protective Services for help.”
Maurice and Selena officially adopted J’nay and J’nette in October and will plan to get married next summer. Thanks for Cousins, they’ll have a new car to accommodate their newest members of the family!
